Position Description:
The Research Assistant III in the Environmental Health Institute will support and advance the goals of a dynamic and collaborative basic science research laboratory focused on cardiometabolic disease. Working under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI), the Research Assistant III will independently perform complex laboratory experiments, manage research protocols, analyze data, and contribute to scientific publications and grant applications. The individual will also be responsible for overseeing day-to-day lab operations, maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies, and assisting with training of students. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical skills, scientific curiosity, organizational excellence, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced research environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design, conduct, and troubleshoot experiments using molecular, biochemical, and cellular techniques (e.g., PCR, Western blotting, cell culture, flow cytometry).
- Collect, organize, and analyze experimental data; assist with data interpretation and presentation.
- Maintain detailed and accurate laboratory records in accordance with institutional policies.
- Assist with manuscript preparation, figure generation, and submission of research findings to scientific journals.
- Support grant and protocol submissions (e.g., IRB, IACUC).
- Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of laboratory instruments.
- Manage laboratory inventory, ordering supplies, and coordinating with vendors.
- Train and supervise undergraduate students or junior research staff.
- Adhere to safety protocols and regulatory requirements in all laboratory activities.
- Data collection, collation, and analysis.
- Perform animal experiments, tissue extractions, and sample storage.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and data analysis software (e.g., Prism) is a plus.
Target Compensation Maximum:
$28.55
Target Compensation Minimum:
$19.03
Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
